GatherPlace recordings do not need to be downloaded or converted and can be played back from the GatherPlace servers at anytime as long as the GatherPlace account is an open/active Premium account. The remainder of this article is for users who may need to convert downloaded recordings into other formats other than the FLV format (Flash) which is supplied by GatherPlace when the download option is chosen.

In order to covert a recording into another format it must first be downloaded to your computer.
For more information on downloading a recorded GatherPlace meeting, see this article.

Once you have the recording downloaded to your computer, the steps below will serve as a guide in converting the file(s) into other formats.

1. Open FLV Converter.
   
   
2. Set the Output Folder on the main panel to where the converted file should be saved by clicking the folder icon to the right of the Output Folder field.
   
   
3. Click the Add Video button, navigate to the location containing the recording and select the file with the '.flv' extension.
   
   
4. Using the top row of buttons, select the output file type on the Options dialog that opens after the file is selected, adjust any settings as required and click the OK button.
   Important: For recordings with audio only and no presentation or graphics, select the To MP3 button/option to extract the audio from the recording. Trying to convert an audio only recording to any other format will cause an error.
   
   
5. Click the Convert button on the main panel after the output file has been selected to convert the recording to the new format.

• What format should I convert the recordings to?
  Most Windows computers will play either AVI or WMV formats without installing any additional programs.
  All Macintosh computers come with QuickTime installed and should play QuickTime (MOV) formatted files.
  
  
  
• Can I extract just the the audio from a recording even if it had graphics/presentation data in it?
  Yes. Simply select the To MP3 option to convert the file to and the resulting file will contain only the audio of the recording.
  
  
  
• Can I upload the converted files to the GatherPlace server so my guests can view them?
  No. Guests can view your recordings by sending them a link to a recording from the My Recordings page at: http://www.gatherplace.com/gp/my-recordings.jsp
